Sharon Butala is the recipient of the Marian Engel Award for a woman writer in mid-career.
She has won many writing awards from the Western Magazine Awards for her journalism,
to a silver in the National Magazine Awards for short fiction, to two nonfiction awards at the
Saskatchewan Book Awards, as well as a number of other prizes and awards.
She has been shortlisted for the Commonwealth Prize (Canada-Carribean section) for
Fever, and shortlisted for the Governor General's Awards twice,
once for fiction for Queen of the Headaches,
and once for nonfiction for The Perfection of the Morning.
Her books have been on the Canadian bestseller lists,
The Perfection of the Morning, for over a year, having reached #1 in July,
1994. Most recently, Lilac Moon was on the bestseller lists.
In 2002 she was invested as an Officer in the Order of Canada, and has received two honorary doctorates.
She has been awarded the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, November, 2009.
